Slide Coffee Roasters in Coolum Beach needed a sign at a different scale entirely — a large-format cut metal sign for a big commercial wall, installed at height using elevated work platform (lift) equipment. This is commercial-scale work: larger substrates, heavier materials, and an install that has to be planned around access, safety and structure, not just appearance.

Large-scale signage is a different discipline to a small shopfront. The letterforms and spacing are drawn to be read from a distance, not arm's length. Mounting has to be engineered for the wall it lives on, and positioning is worked out before anything is lifted — once a sign that size goes up at height, there is no nudging it a few centimetres to the left.

Getting a sign like this right means thinking about how it reads from the road and the car park, how light moves across the metal through the day, and how the install is sequenced so the lift, the wall and the crew all work together. The planning is most of the job; the install day is just where it shows.

What we like about this job is what it says about the studio's range. The same workshop that chalk-lines and brush-paints a single hand-painted fascia also fabricates and installs large commercial work requiring lift equipment — and everything in between, including built-up dimensional letters. Both ends of the scale get the same care.
