Sign Writing on the Sunshine Coast
Sykes Signs is a third-generation family business, and sign writing is where it started — fifty years of brush lettering passed down and still practised in our Coolum Beach workshop. We hand-paint fascias, walls, windows and boards, and gild glass in gold leaf.
Alongside the brush, we cut vinyl lettering for windows, vehicles and panels — the modern side of sign writing, suited to clean, repeatable lettering. Either way, the layout and lettering are drawn by people who learned the trade by hand.

Questions
What is sign writing?
Lettering painted by hand with a brush — the traditional way signs were made before vinyl and digital print. Today the term also covers cut vinyl lettering.
Hand-painted or vinyl?
Hand-painting gives a crafted, one-off look; vinyl is quicker and suits simple, repeatable lettering. We do both and can help you choose.
Can you do gold leaf on glass?
Yes. Gilding on glass is part of our traditional sign-writing work.
Can you paint on walls and fascias?
Yes — fascias, walls, windows and boards. See the Delilah project for a hand-painted fascia.
